Jakarta (ANTARA News) - About 1,000 Indonesian scientists will share their knowledge with Jakarta elementary school students during a "Science for All" Program at the Science and Technology Exhibition Center at the Indonesia-in-Miniature Park (TMMI) on May 8-10, an official said.
"Many elementary school students consider science a boring and difficult subject while actually it is easy to understand and interesting," Prof Dr Arief Rahman, a member of the National Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESO), said here over the weekend.
Teachers` dominance in the teaching of science and lack of competence of teachers in teaching the subject often cause students to lose interest in science, he said. Meanwhile, Dewi Odjar, a Research and Technology Ministry official dealing with science and technology development, promotion and marketing, said the Science and Technology Exhibition Center was a vocational facility which promoted science through audiovisual aids. The edutainment would hopefully encourage students to learn science and understand that the subject is very useful in daily life, she said. The Science for All program is being jointly implemented by the Research and Technology Ministry, the UNESCO National Commission, the National Education Ministry, the Jakarta city administration and Surya Institute.
